Philly Metro Job Market Surges in May, Led by Health and Education Sectors

The Philadelphia-Camden-Wilmington metro area experienced notable job growth in May 2025, with preliminary data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics reporting a total of 3,154,100 nonfarm jobs—an increase of 15,800 from the previous month.

This monthly gain outpaced the 9,000 jobs added in May 2024, signaling stronger-than-usual economic momentum. Over the past 12 months, the region has gained 41,100 jobs, marking a 1.32% increase year-over-year.

Leading the growth was the education and health services sector, which added 27,100 jobs and accounted for nearly two-thirds of the total annual gains. Other sectors contributing to the region’s employment uptick included Other Services (+5,100), Government (+4,900), Trade and Transportation (+3,400), and Leisure and Hospitality (+2,700).
