Philadelphia’s job market remains resilient despite national concerns around tariffs and business uncertainty. In April 2025, the region added 14,800 jobs—a 1.5% increase year-over-year—while the unemployment rate fell to 4.2%, down from 4.7% in January.
The education and healthcare sectors continue to drive local employment, growing by 3.9% and contributing 28,700 new jobs over the past year.
These industries now support more than 761,800 workers across the 11-county metro.
However, not all sectors followed suit—construction saw the sharpest decline, losing 4,400 jobs amid a slowdown in development.
The mixed employment picture has varying implications for commercial real estate across the region.
