CRE Investors Ready to Deploy Capital Following 50 BP Interest Rate Cut

Less than 24 hours after the Federal Reserve’s unexpected 50 basis point interest rate cut, investors showed optimism about increased capital flowing into commercial real estate at Commercial Observer’s first Institutional Investor & Private Equity Forum.

The event, held Thursday morning at The Bankers Club in Lower Manhattan, followed the Fed’s decision on Wednesday afternoon to lower its benchmark rate by half a point to a range of 4.75% to 5%. This move, which exceeded many economists’ expectations of a smaller 25 bp cut, was the Fed’s first rate reduction since a 100 bp cut to near-zero levels on March 16, 2020, at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. That was followed by 11 rate hikes in 12 meetings from March 2022 to July 2023.
