As city officials review recently released impact studies on the Philadelphia 76ers’ proposed Center City arena, Chinatown advocates remain firmly opposed. The city-commissioned reports, released Monday, suggest the 18,500-seat 76 Place arena could threaten Chinatown’s long-term vitality. While the Sixers have offered a $50 million community benefits agreement and are exploring ways to minimize disruption, community leaders remain unconvinced.
“There is no mitigation, period,” said Vivian Chang of the Save Chinatown Coalition and Asian Americans United. “If the arena goes up, there’s no community left to benefit. We will keep fighting this.”
